Waffle

They specialize in espresso, smoothies, and waffles.

They’re imperfectly shaped and perfectly tasty. My treat when I feel like spending.

If I can just leave early enough, I’ll have time to stop before the great dirge of my night shift. If I can shower and dress, primp and preen with enough time left I can stop for a waffle. I’ll sit and I’ll read and I’ll find a moment of peace before the monotony sets in. A moment of limbo. Before I have to return to my responsibilities, my commitments, my problems to be solved.

Sugar, flour, water. A breath.
