Flame

Wax pool around my feet. Drip, drip, drip down away from me. Smoke float over me. Rise up out of my body and disappear. Wick curl inside me. Blacken, wither, and break.

And I…

I will dance with the wind and shiver in delight. I will flicker up and flicker down and turn orange and bright.

I will stretch myself tall, and burn, burn, burn.

Until I have nothing left.

And the wax is all gone. And the smell is all dissipated. And I’m tiny, and blue, and just one… two… three breaths away from going out, out, out.

Puff.
